Curbside recycling coming to Melfort
Curbside recycling will soon be available in Melfort.
City council unveiled plans to deliver a blue bin for recyclables to every home as early as April during their meeting Monday night. Currently, residents that choose to recycle must take their recyclable materials to depots around the city. Plus Industries currently oversees the recycling program, and Mayor Rick Lang said the two organizations will continue to work together.
“Curbside recycling will increase the amount of recyclable materials and Plus Industries will still have a hand in their end of recycling,” he said. “It will be a win-win situation for everybody.”
The service fee will be added to each resident’s utility bill at a cost of $3.05 per month. Residents must participate, and the city said there’s no option to opt-out. The blue bins and garbage will be picked up on alternate weeks. There was no mention of how the new service will be delivered to apartment buildings or multi-family dwellings.
