Melfort Public Library hosting summer reading program kick-off party

Jun 17, 2019 | 12:19 PM

The summer reading program at the Melfort public library will get kicked off tomorrow.

Preschoolers up to age 14 are invited to get registered for the program and take part in numerous activities at the library from 3:30 to 5 p.m. where there will be indoor and outdoor activities happening.

Head Librarian Penny Markland said it’s an exciting time for young readers.

“We have lots of prizes and incentives and draws going on throughout the summer for reading books,” Markland said.

Other activities this year will include a visit from the Science Center in Regina, a LEGO day and a family store time on top of many other surprises.

As for the summer kick off party, Melfort day camps will bring their bumper balls, the giant ring toss, plasma cars, etc.

“Kids are also going to plant a seed, our theme this year is ‘discover the natural world’ so that’s what we will be working on throughout the summer,” Markland said.

Also new this year is a mountain with caves that children will be able to select small prizes from for every 10 books they read.

Some grand prizes this year from the Wapiti Regional Library include a bike, and little robots. Every 10 books read results in two entries into the grand prize draw.

Registrations will also be accepted after the kick off party as well for those who are unable to attend.
