RCMP say a man has been charged with the second degree murder of Jessica Cameron from the Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation.

Jamie Smallchild, 25, will make his first court appearance at the Saskatoon Provincial Court Monday morning. He and Cameron were known to be in a domestic relationship.

In a media release, RCMP said Rosthern officers responded to a complaint around 6 a.m. Saturday of a damaged vehicle found in a wooded area near Beardy’s First Nation.

Police found a green minivan with minor front end damage lodged in trees. They located a 25-year-old man in the driver seat and a 33-year-old woman in the passenger seat.

The female was pronounced deceased on scene by Rosthern Emergency Medical Services. The male had minor injuries.

Police officers observed inconsistencies between the injuries sustained by the occupants of the vehicle and the damage on the minivan.

Rosthern RCMP, RCMP Major Crime Unit South, Saskatoon RCMP Forensic Identification Section and Prince Albert RCMP Traffic Reconstruction attended the scene and furthered the investigation.

On Sunday Smallchild was charged with the second degree murder of Jessica Cameron.
