Volunteering Opportunities in the Health Authority Region

The following are Volunteer Service Opportunities in Prince Albert and area for the week of September 2, 2019

The Volunteer Services Department is in need of caring, compassionate and committed volunteers to fill the following service positions:

Meals on Wheels – Home Care Prince Albert, Birch Hills, Kinistino

Adult volunteers are needed to assist with delivering meals to Home Care clients.

Shifts: 11:15 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Patient Information (Greeter) – Victoria Hospital

Duties include directing patients and visitors to the various departments for treatments, tests, x-rays, or to other destinations in the hospital.

Shifts: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. or 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. & On Call

Monday – Friday

P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth) Volunteer

To promote injury prevention through reality education, enabling youth to recognize risk and make informed choices about activities and behaviors.

Shifts: 9:00 – 3:30 as needed.

Youth Volunteers – Victoria Hospital, Most Long Term Care Facilities

Students in Grades 8 to 12 (ages 13 – 18) volunteer their services from September to June. Duties include assisting with supper, feeding residents and patients, play therapy, folding linens, serving ice water, visiting patients and residents.

Shifts: 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

The following are Volunteer Service Opportunities in Big River, Shellbrook, Leask and Canwood for the week of September 2, 2019.

The Volunteer Service Department is in need of caring, compassionate and committed volunteers to fill the following service positions:

Youth Volunteers – Victoria Hospital, Most Long Term Care Facilities

Students in Grades 8 to 12 (ages 13 – 18) volunteer their services from September to June. Duties include assisting with supper, feeding residents and patients, play therapy, folding linens, serving ice water, visiting patients and residents.

Shifts: 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., or as determined by the facility Monday to Friday.

Special Groups or Individuals – Parkland Integrated Health Centre (306) 747-6841

These volunteers entertain, provide interesting educational presentations, assist with special events, sing, etc. and have fun with the residents.

“On Call” Volunteers – Big River Health Centre (306) 469-2220

Volunteers are needed for the long term care residents on an “on-call” basis, to assist with outings, parties, social gatherings, shopping trips, taking residents to appointments, etc.

Activity Programs – Wheatland Lodge – Leask (306) 466-4949

Volunteers will assist the staff with activities and set up for such. Duties include assisting with crafts, shopping trips, birthday parties, special functions, music therapy, exercise programs, bowling groups, horticulture, painting, baking, etc. Programs change periodically.

Shifts: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. or 12:45 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Monday – Friday

The following are Volunteer Service Opportunities in Kinistino and Birch Hills for the week of September 2, 2019.

The Volunteer Service Department is in need of caring, compassionate and committed volunteers to fill the following service positions:

Parent-Tot Program – Birchview Home – Birch Hills (306) 749-3488

Mothers and/or fathers along with their young children may visit residents on a one-to-one basis or in small groups. Parents are responsible for their children at all times.

Shifts: Flexible, once or twice per week.

Entertainment – Jubilee Lodge – Kinistino (306) 864-2851

Volunteer performers (Musicians, magicians, actors, etc.) share their talents with residents in long-term care. Other volunteers assist by inviting residents to a specific area for entertainment, parties, sing-a-longs, etc. Assist with snacks, lunches, etc.
