“It would contribute to a more positive patient experience”: Melfort nurse talks about equipment needs at hospital

A Melfort nurse is weighing in on the importance of equipment updates at the Melfort hospital ahead of tomorrow’s radio-thon.

Jacquie Code has been a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse in Melfort for almost a year now.

She said the infant incubator update that the foundation is campaigning for is important to the area as a whole.

“It would contribute to a more positive patient experience, you could receive all of your care here versus having to go beyond Melfort hospital,” Code said.

Code is originally from Carrot River and did her training at Cumberland College back in 2009. She did her practicum at the Melfort hospital before working casual and working in Carrot River. Code attained a full-time position at the hospital in January.

“It’s a thriving hospital that offers a wide scope of services and are dedicated to providing excellent services to Melfort and the surrounding areas,” Code said. “I know people come from a long ways away to utilize the services here.”

The infant incubator comes with a price tag of $60,000. The update lists never end so donations big or small are a big help according to Code.

“Everyone benefits in the long run whether it is personally or through family and friends,” Code said. “You just never know when you will have to utilize the hospital and it’s not on your mind until it is.”

She added that the more people that are contributing, the less one person will have to contribute.

The radio-thon on 105 CJVR and Saskatchewan’s New Beach Radio gets underway at 7 a.m. from the Melfort Curling Rink with a kick-off pancake breakfast.
