MBRC elects executive as organization members discuss future

The Melfort Business Revitalization Corporation continues to press forward in their effort to promote and connect local businesses.

Tyler Fahlman of Fountain Tire was elected as the new chairperson of the organization at a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

Dean Wallace of Darn Computers is the vice-chair, while Heidi Brignall of JBN Promotions is the secretary and TJ’s Pizza’s Tara Muntain is the treasurer.

Muntain said the corporation members discussed their action plan and the purpose of the group.

“We talked about what our connections are and what we can do to connect the businesses together and unifying the business group together,” Muntain said. “It’s really important to help the businesses in Melfort.”

Muntain said the corporation members want to advocate for Melfort businesses, and promote Melfort in the local trading area.

“We also discussed what we’ve done in the past that worked out really well – our networking nights, and maybe aiming them towards certain different groups,” Muntain said. “We’ve got retail, we have the contractors, we have the financial sector, the service groups. We have all these different sectors of businesses and it’s time to connect everybody together.

Muntain said the MBRC is still determining what kind of role they will have in the business community, including whether the organization will be membership-based.

But she added the new executive that were elected on Tuesday is a good start, and they will continue to be busy.

Tuesday’s meeting comes on the heels of the organization’s annual general meeting that was held earlier this month.

The next meeting is planned for shortly after Remembrance Day, and any business owners or others interested in being part of the Melfort Business Revitalization Corporation can get ahold of any of the four members of the executive.
