Two cranes brought in to Vancouver port for crane recovery effort

VANCOUVER — It’s going to take two large floating cranes to try to lift another crane that collapsed over a container vessel at the Port of Vancouver early Monday.

Louanne Wong, director of communications with Global Container Terminals Vanterm, says a 900-ton floating crane known as The Beast was brought in Monday and a second 600-ton crane arriving Tuesday will be used together to support the recovery operation.

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident where it says the ship the Ever Summit struck a gantry crane while berthing and both the vessel and crane sustained damage.
