A man is now in custody after barricading himself inside a home on the One Arrow First Nation.

On July 10, Wakaw RCMP received word on the location of a man wanted on a number of serious charges, 26-year-old Julius Sutherland.

Officers went to a home on the One Arrow First Nation and made contact with Sutherland, while the area was secured by officers, with the assistance of Rosthern RCMP and the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) Dog Services.

Four other adults, and four children were in the home, and two adults and all of the children left following direction from the police.

A man and woman were left in the home and refused to exit.

After several hours of communication, the man attempted to leave the house and bring the woman outside to safety. They were outside the home when Sutherland exited and attempted to bring her back inside.

Officers were able to get between the three people and the house, and after a brief physical struggle Sutherland was taken into custody.

He faces several charges, including discharging a firearm with intent, pointing a firearm, forcible confinement, and uttering threats. He will appear in Melfort Provincial Court on Monday, July 20.
