Sep 21, 2020 | 5:44 PM

A case of COVID-19 has been identified on the McClean Lake uranium mill in northern Saskatchewan.

Orano Canada confirmed Sunday one of their employees tested positive and is in isolation at the mill camp.

A media release from the company said it was determined the source of the infection was outside of the work environment.

Three close contacts of the employee have been identified and are safely isolating at the site.

Orano said it was working closely with and following the guidance of the Northern Population Health Unit’s medical health officers.

“The health and safety of our employees is our highest priority,” Orano Canada president and CEO Jim Corman said. “While we regret having to share this news, McClean Lake has prepared for this circumstance. We were able to isolate the appropriate people and get them tested as soon as possible. We wish our employee a speedy recovery and I urge everyone to follow all precautions in limiting the spread of COVID-19.”
