Trojans sweep weekend against Wildcats with 2-1 win at home

Nov 15, 2020 | 11:00 AM

Saturday, Nov. 14 was described as a greasy win for the Tisdale Trojans over the Warman Wildcats.

Two deflection goals from forwards Jacob Cossette and Kylynn Olafson and a 28-save performance from goaltender Hunter Lolacher were enough to give the Trojans a 2-1 win at the Tisdale RECplex. With the win, the Trojans swept the two-game home and home series with the Wildcats and improve their record to 2-1-0-0 in the Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League (SMAAAHL) regular season.

Daven Smith, Trojans assistant coach, told northeastNOW the wins were needed. Especially after their exhibition performance and home opener.

“It was a couple of weeks of adversity,” Smith said. “We got the snowstorm, all these COVID-19 regulations we’ve got to follow, injuries and suspensions. It’s just one thing after another. But we’re proud of the boys and how they handled it. They’ve got school… they’re teenagers. It’s pretty good to see them battle through the adversity and it just makes them better in the long run.”

Smith was pleased with the balanced against the Wildcats, as the Trojans remain short-staffed.

The Trojans got forward Kayden Ostrom back from suspension and signed forward Jackson Smith as Ashton Ferster appears to be staying with the Flin Flon Bombers in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

However, they remain without forwards Kaiden Korolchuk and Zachery Somers due to suspension and injury respectively, and defenceman Jeremy Hancock due to injury. Smith hopes to see Somers practice in one to two weeks, while Hancock appears to be a long-term injury.

The Trojans prepare for a home and home series with the Battlefords Stars, beginning Saturday, Nov. 21 at the North Battleford Civic Centre, before returning to the RECplex on Sunday, Nov. 22 for a 2 p.m. puck drop.
