The first Players of the Week awards have been handed out by the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

The awards date back to the beginning of the regular season back on Nov. 6 and include the Nov. 13 and 14 weekend slate of games.

Melfort Mustang rookie Joel Favreau has been named Goalie of the Week after he appeared in two of the Mustangs four games to start the year. He’s 1-1 in those two games and has a 1.50 goals-against-average, as well as a .944 save percentage. Both of those marks are tops in the league as of Monday, Nov. 16.

Favreau opened the season in Melfort with a 31 save performance in the Mustangs 3-1 win over Flin Flon. He followed that up with a 20 save showing in Melfort’s 2-1 loss to Nipawin on Friday, Nov. 13.

The Prince Albert native is a former Minto in the Saskatchewan U18 AAA Hockey League, and was named the Goalie of the Tournament at the 2020 Macs Midget Tournament in Calgary.

The Mustangs are back in action on Friday when they take on the La Ronge Ice Wolves in a home and home set.
