Hawks grounded by Ice Wolves, suffer first loss of season
The Nipawin Hawks suffered their first loss of the 2020-21 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season. Tuesday night the La Ronge Ice Wolves scored five unanswered goals on route to a 6-2 win at the Centennial Arena.
Nipawin defenceman Jack Lenchyshyn said nothing went well for them and they need to regroup.
“I think it’s a matter of playing a full 60 minutes,” the 20-year-old said after the game. “We know what we have to do. We will come back tomorrow for practice, work our butts off, and get ready for the weekend.”
La Ronge opened the scoring off the stick of Holden Knights before the Hawks responded with a pair of goals in the first period. Both Jaxsen Wiebe and Jérémy Rainville scored their second goals of the year giving Nipawin a 2-1 lead after the first frame.
