Humboldt dominates Stars in weekend home and home

After a couple of split games in the past weeks the Humboldt Broncos came back to dominate the Battlefords North Stars in a home and home series that ended with a win at the Elgar Petersen arena.

The Broncos headed to the Access Communications Arena on Oct. 8 for the first of the series.

An uneventful first period led to the North Stars dominating the second with two goals from Battlefords’ Colby Bear and Easton Johns sending the Broncos into the second at 0-2.

The tables would turn for the Broncos in the third as Braiden Koran, Alec Saretzky; on the power play, and Cage Newans all had a chance to bury the puck and wrap up the game with a 3-2 win.

The hometown win would be a much higher scoring affairs as the two teams battled back and forth in the Broncos 6-4 win.

Lucas Ceccarelli would be the lone scorer in the first period against two Battlefords goals from Dylan Esau and Matthew Henry.

The Broncos would strike first in the second with two goals Newans and Saretzky before the Stars’ answered back with a goal from Steven Kesslering. A goal from Logan Kurki midway through the period would finish the period with a 4-3 advantage for the Broncos.

Another back and forth period for the Broncos kept them in the lead with Reilly Mckinnon putting one more on the board for the Broncos with Bear answering back with one more for the Stars. A final goal from Saretzky would end the game.

The Broncos will be back at it for a busy week ahead with a trip to Wilcox to take on the Hounds before a home and home series between the Broncos and the Terriers Oct. 15-16 starting in Yorkton.
