‘Play like the last two weeks’: Mustangs set for southern road swing

Oct 15, 2021 | 11:00 AM

The Melfort Mustangs are looking to get back into the win column as they embark on their first southern road swing of the 2021/2022 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season.

It all begins with a Friday night meeting with early season favourites, the Estevan Bruins. On Saturday, the Weyburn Red Wings will welcome the Mustangs to Horizon Credit Union Centre. After their 4-1 loss on Wednesday, Mustang forward Seth McCulloch says they need to get back to what made them succesful on their five game win streak.

“Play like the last two weeks,” McCulloch said. “We had a good run there and now it’s time to get back on that and hopefully go for it again.”

Meanwhile, with just one day off between games, McCulloch added they’re able to put their recent loss behind them almost immediately.

“Everybody’s got to forget about it quick, and play our game,” he said.

McCulloch is currently tied for 16th in league scoring with nine points, just behind teammates Carter Anderson and Ben Tkachuk who are tied for 13th, and tied for eighth in league scoring respectively.

Their opponents for the weekend; the Bruins are 4-2-0-0 to start the year and are expected to be near the top of the standings at years end with the National Championship coming to Affinity Place this spring. Weyburn is off to a 2-3-1-0 start.

Both games can be heard on 105CJVR with the pregame show at 7:15 p.m. on both nights with Mat Barrett.
