Covid-19 postponements

Mustangs pausing operations for a minimum of five days

Jan 4, 2022 | 3:24 PM

As of today, the Melfort Mustangs organization will be on pause for a minimum of five days. This comes as a response to COVID-19.

With three games scheduled for this week, that means games set for Tuesday, Jan. 4 against the La Ronge Ice Wolves in La Ronge, Friday, Jan. 7 against the Flin Flon Bombers in Flin Flon and Saturday, Jan. 8 against the Flin Flon Bombers in Melfort, have all been postponed.

According to the Mustangs and the SJHL, Melfort will continue to follow the direction of Public Health during this time.

Melfort is the first team in the SJHL this season to have all of their operations put on pause, however, they are not the first team to have their games postponed.

The Weyburn Red Wings and the Estevan Bruins had their home and home series postponed on Dec. 30 and Jan. 1, along with the Flin Flon Bombers and La Ronge Ice Wolves series postponed on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

According to the SJHL website, those games were put on hold because “players may have been in close contact with positive COVID-19 cases and as a precautionary measure, the postponements will provide more time for extra testing to ensure the safety and health of everyone and the return to the communities.”

No official word has been released on the exact definition of the relation between the Mustangs and COVID-19 as of yet. More information will be released when the five-day pause nears a close.
