Doell commits to career after Mustangs

The Melfort Mustangs have announced that 2001-born forward Nolan Doell has committed to the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings for post-secondary hockey.

Doell is a veteran of over 100 Junior A games between the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) and SJHL. Doell has played 19 games in a Mustangs uniform after being traded to Melfort on November 23, 2022 from the La Ronge Ice Wolves. He has scored 11 goals and has added eight assists for 19 points.

In a press release sent to northeastnow by the Mustangs organization, Doell shared his thoughts on his plans after his Mustangs and SJHL tenure comes to completion.

“I am very proud to sign with such a great organization,” Doell said. “I am very excited to start my future there.”

Doell played played a total of 69 games with the Ice Wolves, scoring 20 goals and adding 28 assists for 48 points. He also added three assists over four playoff games for La Ronge in 2019/2020. Doell was also the Ice Wolves Captain before being traded to the Mustangs this season.

The Martensville, Sask. product was also a fourth-round pick in the 2016 SJHL Draft by the Ice Wolves.

Doell began the 2019/2020 season with the Whitecourt Wolverines of the AJHL, playing in 16 games, tallying four points before coming back to Saskatchewan.

Prior to his time in the SJHL, Doell played 126 games for Beardy’s Blackhawks U18 AAA club.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings are part of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC).
