Finland defeats Canada for gold medal at hockey world championship
BRATISLAVA, Slovakia — The effort was better. The end result was the same. Canada settled for silver on Sunday at the world hockey championship after a 3-1 loss to Finland.
The outcome was the same as the two teams’ first game of the preliminary round, back on May 10. Finland was the only team to beat Canada in the tournament.
“I thought we played today’s game a lot better than we did the first one,” said defenceman Shea Theodore, who scored to give Canada a 1-0 lead in the first period. “The game-winning goal on that first game was a lucky bounce off the end wall. I thought we played a lot better tonight.”
