Pride Week returning to in-person events across Humboldt

May 27, 2022 | 5:00 PM

Pride Week is fast approaching for those who live in Humboldt and surrounding communities.

After two years where most of the festivities were forced to be held virtually, the Humboldt & Area Pride Network has scheduled several events between June 12–18 to promote inclusion for all.

Chair Andrew Matheson told northeastNOW the network looking forward to seeing the great support the area has once again in person.

“We’ve always had great involvement from community members, city members, and every source of business whether it be donations or just showing allyship.”

The week starts off with a crosswalk painting, followed by a public event at Civic Park.

The following day will see a progress flag, based on the original pride flag but includes more communities, raised at city hall and an evening pride paint party at Westminster United Church.

Other events such as a bowling night and preschool storytime have also been scheduled during the week.

For Matheson, the one event he’s looking for is the flag-raising.

“It’s a great sign of inclusion within the community.”

Tickets will be needed to take part in specific events. More information, including how to purchase tickets, can be found on Humboldt & Area Pride Network’s Facebook page.

Matheson is hoping to see all the events jam-packed with people who are and aren’t members of the pride community.

“We want to celebrate diversity and inclusion and that doesn’t mean someone who’s from the queer community. We want everyone to feel included and welcomed.”
