Short summer

Delays announced as Birch Hills clinic waits for new nurse practitioner

May 30, 2022 | 11:16 AM

The Birch Hills Primary Health Care Clinic will experience a staff shortage this summer which will impact its level of care.

A new nurse practitioner (NP) was hired to fill a vacancy left by a former NP’s retirement. However, the new NP will not be starting until Aug. 29.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) warned residents Monday morning that there may be delays caused by having only one part-time NP available during the summer.

Clinic hours will also be changed to accommodate physicians’ holidays during the summer.

The clinic will be closed on June 6, as well as August 2, 8-10, 15, 16, and 19.

SHA apologizes for any inconvenience these changes may cause but reassures residents that they are only temporary.

Regular clinic hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Physician services will continue to be available three days per week. Lab services will continue to be available during regular hours Tuesday and Wednesday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Residents can continue to make arrangements for NP services by calling 306-747-5945.

In the event of an emergency, call 9-1-1, and an ambulance will be dispatched to provide assistance. Call HealthLine 811 toll-free 24 hours per day if you have non-urgent health or mental health-related questions.
