At this moment in time, Elizabeth Marshall is representing Team Sask as a member of the Rugby Sevens team in the 2022 Canada Summer Games.

But that isn’t the only sport the multi-talented 17-year-old girl and current Hudson Bay resident plays. She recently competed for Team Australia as a member of their national hockey team at the 2022 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championships.

Marshall told northeastNOW she is very grateful for the privilege she possesses and doesn’t take the opportunity lightly.

“I’m really grateful for all the opportunities that I get, you know. Not every kid gets to be a dual citizen and represent their countries and provinces at a high level.”

When she originally found out she’d be representing Saskatchewan and Hudson Bay in Niagra Falls, she was quite excited.

“I worked hard,” she said. “When I got the news that I made the team, I was really happy.”

Marshall was born in Australia, however, moved to Canada at a young age. After moving back to Australia and then coming back to Canada again, she has had the opportunity to experience what both places have to offer.

She explained both countries are quite passionate when it comes to their national sports, whether that be hockey or rugby.

With that passion comes the opportunity for Marshall to attend Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Wilcox and play hockey.

While she has added it is difficult to balance both sports, according to her, she couldn’t have done it without the support from her family.

“My problem is overloading my schedule. If I could just find the right balance of how many sports I can handle with all my academics, I maintain being happy… My parents and friends never pressured me to do anything that I didn’t want to do, so once I found my passion, I just pursued it to the max.”

And while she has already accomplished quite the impressive feats, she mentioned she still has bigger goals for the future.

“My dream for rugby is to make the Canadian team and hopefully go to a couple of Olympics. I really think it’s possible if I keep up my hard work and passion. With hockey, I really want to make a high-level team, maybe go someplace with the Australian team again, but a bit more.”

The Canada Summer Games are currently underway having begun on August 6 and concluding on August 21.
