Ribbon cutting ceremony held for new Tisdale off-leash dog park

The new off-leash dog park in Tisdale is now 100% complete.

The town held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday to officially unveil the project.

While the park has been open for a few months now, according to director of recreation and parks Lesley Thibault, all the lighting and accessories hadn’t all been included until more recently.

She told northeastNOW that the town is quite happy to have a new amenity in town, which adds to the living experience of community members.

“We’re super excited our project is now complete for all of our dog owners and their dogs to enjoy. We are also very grateful to be successful in acquiring grant support from Prairie Economics Development Canada to bring this project to life. Thank you to our Kin and Kinette club members, as well as my foreman and staff for all the groundwork and maintenance they do at this park.”

The Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF) allocated $49,500 which was approximately 75 percent of the total cost of the project.

The CCRF is intended to help communities rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s a two-year, $500 million national program for smaller infrastructure projects across Canada.

Mayor Al Jellicoe was the one who got to cut the ribbon at the ceremony, as he explained the generosity of a local group.

“The Tisdale Kinsmen and Kinette Clubs generously donated $8,000 towards benches and waste receptacles. This project is a welcome addition to our outdoor recreation facilities, which also fits in nicely with our walking trails in the region.”

The donors have been publicly recognized, now that the project is complete.

The dog park is located behind the Northeast Healthplex on the northwest end of Tisdale.

Dog owners can utilize the walking trail to access the off-leash dog park where they are welcome to bring their canine companions to run around “leash-free” and socialize with other dogs.
