Nipawin Hawks make move for goaltender
The Nipawin Hawks have given up the most goals in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL), that has forced General Manager Tad Kozun to make a move.
The team announced Tuesday morning it acquired 19-year-old Regina product Jackson Fellner from the Melfort Mustangs for a 2023 fourth round SJHL draft pick. The team released rookie puck stopper Nolan McDowell the same day.
“We just wanted to change our goaltending up a little bit,” Kozun told northeastNOW. “I am not going to put full blame on the goalies for what we’ve been going through, but everything in practice to habits and everything we felt like we needed to make a change.”
Fellner played one game for the Mustangs this season before being released to the Prairie Junior Hockey League’s Regina Capitals where he played a pair of games. Fellner spent the 2021- 22 SJHL season with the Weyburn Red Wings. He played 28 games in the SJHL sporting a goals-against-average of 4.73, an .883 save-percentage and a record of six wins, 18 losses, and a tie. He’s also played four games in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Kozun said Fellner is no stranger to the SJHL allowing the organization a chance to make a change and gain experience.
