Team Lakeland bringing home the hardware at Sask. Winter Games

Team Lakeland has so far brought in over a dozen medals at the 2023 Saskatchewan Winter Games in Regina.

The most recent was a gold medal won in the male curling event on Wednesday. The team features Tyler Derksen of Hague, Gavin Blake Martens of Rosthern and Jared Tessier of St. Isidore de Bellevue. They beat Team Saskatoon 7-4 in the final.

The other gold medal won at the Games so far belongs to a Prince Albert weightlifter. Kai MacDonald from Ecole Vickers won the top prize in the male 55kg weight division, totalling 100 total points.

Team Lakeland also has nine silver medals to its tally: four in weightlifting and five in alpine skiing.

Lane Annand of Nipawin won silver in two events while Aubrie Annand, also of Nipawin, finished second in two slalom events. Jacklyn Sten from Canwood won the other silver for the skiers.

Meanwhile, Celena Kelly Jacobson of Meath Park, Aurora McIntyre and Finn Roode of Prince Albert, and Anthony Luciano of Shellbrook won silvers in their weightlifting classes.

On to the bronze medals where Lakeland has won five so far including one for the U19 Mix Badminton Team. The players include Grace Chamberlain of Smeaton, Elizabeth Daniels of Sturgeon Lake First Nation, Alex and Greyson de Padua and Keston Gerard of Prince Albert, Joshua Jackson of Cumberland House, Ksenia Martens of Nipawin, Martina Avery Moore of White Fox, Keira Tallon of Nipawin, and Steven Wu of Rosthern.

Team Lakeland has also claimed in weightlifting thanks to outstanding performances by Erica Jacobson of Meath Park, and Gracie Huet and Griffin Johns of Prince Albert.

Nipawin’s Ty Annand won a bronze in U17 male slalom.

The Saskatchewan Winter Games continue Thursday and run until this Saturday.
