Melfort’s Fire Chief let go from position, city not in rush to replace

Nov 24, 2023 | 5:00 PM

The City of Melfort will be without a Fire Chief for the foreseeable future.

Shaun Stewart was recently let go from his position.

He had been the Fire Chief since late 2019, replacing Jason Everitt who left to lead the fire department in Whitehorse.

Adam Homes, Melfort’s city manager, wouldn’t say what led to Stewart’s dismissal.

He did explain that Deputy Chief Doug Walsh and the rest of the department will ensure that people who need their help will continue to get it without any delays.

Homes also noted the city will be reviewing the Fire Chief position moving forward. He didn’t elaborate on what exactly they would be reviewing, only adding that there’s no timeline on when a decision over the position would be made.
