Mild, dry weather to continue through holidays: Environment Canada

Dec 22, 2023 | 5:00 PM

It looks like ideal travel weather is our Christmas present this holiday season.

The forecast models from Environment Canada are showing mostly sunny conditions into next week.

Terri Lang with Environment Canada told northeastNOW that the El Niño pattern is holding strong, giving much of the province above average temperatures and little in the way of precipitation.

“The lack of weather systems coming through giving any kind of snow, any kind of precipitation, it doesn’t look like there’s much coming through, especially through central Saskatchewan,” Lang explained.

The only thing that could likely hamper travel is low-lying fog, or a melting-freezing situation on the highways.

Lang said their models are indicating the warmer-than-normal temperatures could stick around all the way into 2024.

Despite the likelihood of a warm, calm travel season during the holiday season, Lang still recommended people check the Highway Hotline and the weather forecasts before heading out.
