A private liquor store is now open in Tisdale.

Sobeys Liquor Store opened its doors Friday becoming the eighth location in the province. Tisdale’s store is in the second smallest market next to Emerald Park, just outside Regina. Manager Bryce Kryzanowski said excitement has been building since the June announcement.

“We had a lot of people come in right off the bat. You could tell that people were eager to get in and see what we have,” he said.

Kryzanowski said the growler bar (craft beer station) is a highlight for the customers. He added Air Miles are a big draw for customers, he said the store is the only business in town piling up travel points for shoppers. Kryzanowski said the store is also bringing new services and products to the region.

“There’s a lot of new stuff that the town has never had or seen. It’s good for the community and exciting for everybody,” he said.

The store employs around 12 people working various shifts and hours. The government operated liquor store closed Feb. 8. No employees from the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority transferred to the private store.

Zryzanowski said the first few hours of operation have lived up to the expectations.

“It’s been really good. Everyone is smiling when they leave so you can tell they liked coming in,” he said.
