Affinity Credit Union comes to aid of Kinistino family
A special trust account has been set up at the Affinity Credit Union in Kinistino to help a family where members lost almost all their belongings in a house fire earlier this month.
The bank’s Vice Centre Team Lead Blair Michaliew said the family recently moved to the community from outside the country before the fire. Since the incident the community has jumped at the chance to help, he said.
“You know anytime something tragic happens in a small community, everyone tries to pitch in and help out. From what I understand there’s been lots of item donations and stuff made to the family too,” he said.
The fire happened at a rental property on Feb. 15. According to Kinistino Fire Chief Curtis Jackson, the fire started in the garage and quickly spread to the nearby house. The couple and their three young children under the age of 12 were able to get out in time but the house could not be saved.
