A 30-year-old man from Hudson Bay is facing a number of charges after an incident on May 12.

RCMP attended a home in Leason Trailer Court shortly before 5 p.m. looking for an individual out on outstanding warrants.

The individual was found in an outbuilding on the property and was taken into custody.

Officers then heard a bang and saw smoke coming from the outbuilding. Officers saw gas and propane tanks inside, one of which was open and emitting fumes. A fire was ultimately extinguished and the tanks were removed. No one was injured in the incident.

Matthew Barker now faces a total of 12 charges, including one count of Arson – Disregard for Human Life, Assaulting a Peace Officer with a Weapon, Unsafe Storage of a Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possessing a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, four counts of Failure to Comply with a Release Order, and three counts of Possession of a Weapon Contrary to Order.

Barker was also arrested on outstanding warrants from the Manitoba RCMP. He will appear in court on May 20.
