Tisdale Fire Department holding Open House during Fire Prevention Week

Oct 6, 2019 | 12:00 PM

With Fire Prevention Week starting on Sunday, Oct. 6, local fire departments will be holding open houses.

The Tisdale Fire Department is one of those departments. They will be holding an open house on Tuesday, Oct. 8 starting at 5:30 p.m.

Captain James Wright said it’s important to hold the open houses so citizens, especially children, feel more comfortable with firefighters in times of crisis.

“Emotions are running high and everybody is usually very scared to start with,” he said. “Just having that familiarity kind of eases that a little bit.”

Wright added it’s also good to meet your neighbours in the community who are serving with the department.

The Tisdale department hasn’t held an open house in a few years, but Wright said they want to start having them every year during Fire Prevention Week. He said it allows them to answer questions from citizens about anything fire safety-related whether it be fire safety plans in the home, or at a business.

At the open house on Tuesday, attendees will be able to see a wide variety of fire safety gear.

“You’ll be able to have a look inside of our fire apparatus,'” Wright told northeastNOW. “The fire trucks, the tanker trucks. We’re also going to have our rescue truck and a lot of our rescue gear pulled out and on display.”

He said they’ll also have the Jaws of Life on display as well as some water rescue gear.

The department will have a burger and pop available at the open house for a $5 donation to the department.
