Collaborative Professionals of Saskatchewan Inc. Is Transforming How Families Approach Separation Through Participation in United Nations-Recognized World Creativity & Innovation Week

Saskatchewan, April 14, 2022 — Separation can be one of the most tragic and stress-inducing life experiences for couples and families around the world. Universally, it is a time to confront emotions while making life-altering decisions. So, it’s important to note that there is a way that couples can minimize the negative impacts on themselves and their families if they do decide to split.

It’s called Collaborative Practice, also referred to as Collaborative Divorce, and it is a dispute resolution model practiced internationally which provides families with an opportunity to reduce the negative impacts of separation by working proactively and cooperatively with a team of specially trained Collaborative legal, financial, and mental health professionals who educate, support, and guide couples to make their own lasting and respectful agreements. Collaborative Practice empowers couples and families to resolve their legal disputes outside of court, without judges, magistrates, or court personnel making decisions for them and facilitates respectful and dignified resolutions while putting children at the center of decision-making.

To inform families in transition around the world of the transformative impact of Collaborative in the separation process, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP), the premier global organization promoting a Collaborative approach to dispute resolution, of which Collaborative Professionals of Saskatchewan Inc. is an involved member of, is partnering with World Creativity and Innovation Week organizers to spread awareness of Collaborative Practice and its relation to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal #16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.

World Creativity and Innovation Week (WCIW) is a United Nations recognized event in its 21st year. It is celebrated between April 15, the birthday of Leonardo Da Vinci, and April 21, World Creativity and Innovation Day, a United Nations International Day of Observance which focuses on using creativity and innovation to achieve the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This week and day are celebrated by hundreds of organizations all over the world. In 2021, it was celebrated in 92 countries.

Collaborative Practice is an ideal fit for this UN-recognized international event because of how Collaborative creatively and innovatively brings people together to find more positive solutions for families in divorce situations by using interdisciplinary skillsets and perspectives. Due to this, IACP, Collaborative Professionals, and Collaborative Groups internationally will work to leverage their participation in this United Nations-recognized event to create an international public education movement to promote global awareness of Collaborative Practice as a dispute resolution model and its ability to foster the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal #16.

As an active member of IACP, Collaborative Professionals of Saskatchewan Inc. is excited to host a public education event in April 2022 as part of our participation in United Nations-Recognized World Creativity and Innovation Week & Day.

Our membership is hosting the following celebrations if you are interested in attending or providing this information to persons that might be interested in attending:

This video shares the perspective of how essential creativity and innovation is to Collaborative Divorce, and highlights how this Process uses these concepts to provide deeper and more meaningful resolution to families experiencing family breakdown so that they can create a healthy, thriving family moving forward into their next chapter of life. Featured are 10 Collaborative practitioners from around the world, including the founder of Collaborative Practice, Stu Webb, all of whom describe the power of Collaborative Divorce on a practical and foundational level.
