Bye bye winter tires

Busy time for tire shops as winter tires are switched over

Apr 5, 2024 | 11:00 AM

The warmer weather has people looking to shed the last remnants of winter and tire shops across the northeast are busy with winter tire removals.

Tyler Fahlman is the owner/operator of Fountain Tire Melfort.

He told northeastNOW it has been very busy once the weather conditions started to improve.

“Best thing for us is to…make an appointment to get your tires switched over, or drop the vehicle off with us,” Fahlman explained. “It is best to call ahead and book it right now, we’re booking two or three days out for appointments to change over tires.”

The change to all-season or summer tires also gives people an opportunity to get their vehicle looked over. Fahlman said they do a front-end inspection and check the brakes every time they pull the wheels off a vehicle. If your vehicle is making strange noises or has problems with handling, Fahlman recommends a digital vehicle inspection.

He said it’s important to do any necessary preventative maintenance, as it will save you money in the long run.

“There (are) a lot of fluids…that (are) recommended by the manufacturer to have changed on your vehicle, including transfer cases, differentials, transmission fluid – more than just your standard oil change,” said Fahlman. “Most vehicles also come now with cabin air filters that need to be changed periodically.”

Neglecting your vehicle, including wheel alignments, can lead to damage and ultimately more costly repairs.

“As soon as you notice something that’s not normal with the vehicle, bring it down so we can look at it, and we’ll get it straightened out for you as soon as possible.”

Fahlman said his shop is also out making service calls to local farms, and they are booking a couple of days out. He added their priority is to repair whatever piece of equipment that will be rolling in the field first.

He said customers can now book their appointments online for any mechanical or tire repair, in addition to by phone or through e-mail.
