Firefighters battle Hudson Bay-area blaze for five hours

May 27, 2026 | 5:30 PM

A fire near Hudson Bay caused some nervous moments during a windy Tuesday night.

Hudson Bay Fire and Rescue responded to a large yard fire that spread through several acres of bush.

The blaze also quickly spread through several pieces of equipment and some small outbuildings.

All units were on scene, and the department said they made use of every resource available.

“Firefighters battled the blaze for approximately five hours in difficult terrain along fields, hills, and the riverbank, while also dealing with burning propane tanks and a small structure fire during operations,” the department said. “Thanks to quick action and a nearby dugout used as a water source, crews were able to aggressively attack the fire and prevent it from jumping the river and spreading into the forest.”

The department said while it was a long night, crews did an outstanding job containing a fast-moving blaze safely and effectively.
