The Ministry then reviewed the request, recommending that the 50 km/h be extended to include the intersection, and the 70 km/h transition zone be relocated. 

“Drivers entering Nipawin from the east will reach the 70 km/h and 50 km/h zones sooner than they do now,” said Seckinger.  

The municipality will now complete the required administrative work, and the Ministry of Highways will relocate or install the new speed-limit signs as soon as their work schedule permits. No specific installation date has been provided, and Seckinger said the new speed limits will take effect once that happens. 

“Drivers will be required to follow the new speed limits once the new signs are installed.” 

There is no financial cost to the town of Nipawin for the signage changes, and Seckinger said the new speed limits will allow for a more gradual transition into the community. 

“The change also responds to growth and increased pedestrian and bicycle activity in the area.”
