Bombers offense explodes in Melfort
The Flin Flon Bombers outduelled the Mustangs in Melfort Friday night skating to a 6-4 victory.
The Mustangs are now 32-11-4-1 on the season with 69 points, still comfortably in fourth place overall in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) standings.
Looking for back-to-back wins this week, the Mustangs got off to a fast start as Kalem Zary scored his eighth goal of the season not even two minutes into the first period. Flin Flon would tie the game before the opening period ended when Chystopher Collin beat Evan Plotnik at 12:04.
Nate Hooper provided Flin Flon with a 2-1 lead just past the halfway point of the game. Melfort’s Colin Schmidt reached the 20-goal plateau at the 11:57 point of the middle period tying the game 2-2. Melfort product Beau Stevenson scored his second career SJHL goal in his second game. The 18-year-old currently plays for the Yorkton Maulers of the Saskatchewan AAA Midget Hockey League. The Bombers’ Ethan Daniels tied the game 3-3 before the second intermission.
