Mile long parade kicks off Melfort Exhibition

Jul 19, 2019 | 3:00 PM

Hundreds of participants showed their civic pride on Friday, July 19 as the mile long parade kicked off the Melfort Exhibition.

This years theme was ‘Spirit of Melfort’ and participants came with all of their Melfort pride.

The parade’s first place winners were Norma Lovell and Ron Turner, the Melfort Research Farm, and Kirsch Construction.

The second place winners were Assaly Jewelers, Gateway Vet, and the Melfort and District Museum.

Melfort’s Director of Development, Planning and Community Relations Brent Lutz said the exhibition is always an exciting time.

“It’s been a tradition for 115 years,” Lutz told northeastNOW. “People from throughout the region and the province descend on Melfort to take in the Melfort Exhibition.”

105 CJVR and Saskatchewan’s New Beach Radio will be on location throughout the weekend at the grounds.

According to the Ag Society Manager, Kim Eskowich everything for Friday remains a go at the time of publishing. They have been working hard to keep the grounds dry after heavy rain on the evening of Thursday, July 18.

“We’ve been busy upgrading the paths,” Eskowich said. “The midway will be a go this afternoon. We were a little behind getting the midway running, but they will be running as soon as we get a little more gravel on some of the walkways.”

Updates as to the status of other weekend events can be found on the Melfort Ag Society Facebook page.

Melfort’s Fire Chief Jason Everitt is encouraging safety this weekend, especially if the weather gets nasty. He said to dress appropriately, and watch your footing around the grounds as it could get slippery.

The Melfort Exhibition runs until July 21.
