Cool down coming

Touch of warmth, then back to fall

Today’s summer-like weather will not last long.

Environment Canada is forecasting a high of 18 Celsius for the northeast, but expect significantly cooler weather during the rest of the work week.

Meteorologist Dan Kulak said the cold air is moving into Alberta today, with the drop in temperature expected to head east into Saskatchewan starting tomorrow.

“[The Melfort area] might be struggling to get to a high of eight degrees [Tuesday] and it might actually turn into sort of a negative temperature trend as the day wears on, with temperatures perhaps falling during the morning and the afternoon,” Kulak said.

Highs of just 4 C are in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, with conditions slightly warmer for Friday into the weekend.

The normal high for this time of year in the Melfort area is 11 C.

Kulak said fluctuating temperatures in Saskatchewan is common in the fall.

“The weather pattern for the Prairies in the month of October generally has these weather systems that move through the province – Alberta, Saskatchewan and into Manitoba – on a scale of one every week, give or take a bit,” Kulak said.

The foothills in Alberta are expected to see more snow during this cooler weather, but Kulak said none is expected in this region.
