Melfort Arts Council continuing rebuild in 2021

Dec 23, 2020 | 12:00 PM

The COVID-19 pandemic makes 2020 a year many may prefer to forget but there is hope for the future. We’ve decided to make that the focus of our series of end-of-year stories.

The Melfort Arts Council will continue to rebuild in 2021.

Chair Joanne Bolen said they are looking for a new performing arts coordinator and are also working on new a mission and vision statement.

“This happened at an appropriate time because we have downtime right now so we are going to be able to use this winter to work on rebuilding for the future,” Bolen said.

The group looks forward to a new and exciting council for the new year, according to Bolen.

“I think we are in a great position to rebuild,” Bolen said. “You know 2020 was quite the year but it gave us a great opportunity to stop and reflect and look forward to new and exciting arts for next year.”

Bolen said she has seen the arts being recognized more as people look to close neighbours and the community for arts.

“I think this will really re-invigorate the arts in general for the coming years,” Bolen said.

Things such as concerts, artists workshops, receptions and being able to have face-to-face contact with artists.

The Melfort Arts Council looks toward some new and exciting things as time goes on.

“I think we are going to be having a really great 2021 and beyond for the council,” she said.
