Campground Christmas Lights tour brings in $4,800 in first year

The Melfort Campground Christmas Lights tour was not only a way to get into the holiday spirit but a way to raise funds for local service groups.

Local businesses sponsored the light displays making gate admission a complete profit for the groups who worked each weekend of the tour.

Organizer Juanita Kember told northeastNOW she is happy with how much traffic went through and the amount of money raised.

“I feel like it was very good, $4,800 for the first year between the three service groups,” Kember said.

The service groups at the gate were Melfort Communities in Bloom, Meskanaw 4H, and North East Pregnancy Options.

“It was all very encouraging, and we had lots of good feedback from most people and we look forward to this coming year and seeing how we can make it better,” Kember said.

One of the first steps in looking ahead to the 2022 Christmas season will be reaching out to local business again to gauge what might be possible. Some brainstorming on displays for next year could begin as soon as February in order to make year two a success.

“There have been people that have volunteered as far as helping with set-up for this coming year so that would be a huge help as well,” Kember said.
