Nipawin council gives pool expansion project to Pineland Co-op

Nipawin council received three quotes for the town’s Roof Truss Package as part of the pool building renovation and expansion, and they voted for a local option.

Pineland Co-op will oversee modernizing the Nipawin Pool at Central Park, which includes expanding and enhancing the change rooms, for a little over $7,300 plus GST.

The other quotes were from Wood County in Tisdale for a little under $7,000 and RONA for a similar price as Pineland Co-op.

Barry Elliott, Nipawin’s chief administrative officer, told northeastNOW the cheaper option in Tisdale was discussed around the table before council voted.

“Although all three quotes are appreciated, council did reflect on the fact that our local Pineland Co-op is an ongoing and consistent corporate supporter of activities and events and developments within the community,” Elliott said.

“In this regard they felt that the difference between the Wood County Submission and Pineland Co-op submission was not large enough to necessarily warrant selecting the lowest. It was close enough they felt it was an opportunity for them to show some appreciation for the local provider.”

Elliott mentioned council went out of town for providers before and expects that to continue.

The Roof Truss Package is expected to take approximately four weeks to prepare.
