Respect your Elder, traded to his childhood Mustangs
Tristen Elder grew up in Kinistino, about a 15-minute drive to watch his Melfort Mustangs play. Now, he’ll make that same drive to the rink every day to actually play for that team.
Elder was traded to his childhood favourite team on Wednesday morning, coming from the Humboldt Broncos. The Mustangs gave up 20-year-old forward Jaxon Joseph and the rights to 16-year-old defenceman Kade Olsen, who’s currently with the Beardy’s Blackhawks Midget AAA team in exchange for forward Elder, who turns 20 on Dec. 11.
“I’m definitely really excited,” Elder said. “It’s 10-15 minutes from home, I’ve always wanted to play here. It’s really exciting that it’s getting to happen now.
“When I was a little kid, I’d always come to Mustang games,” Elder added. “I’d probably come to as many as I could get my parents to drive to.”
