Teen sentenced in Melfort Fair gun incident case

Feb 12, 2019 | 11:47 AM

A Tisdale teen will spend 16 months in open custody after a gun incident at the Melfort Fair last July.

The 15-year-old was convicted after his trial at Melfort Provincial Court on Thursday, Feb. 8.

After the incident, Melfort RCMP issued a media release which said officers seized a gun after an altercation between a male and three females on July 20. The gun turned out to be an imitation firearm.

Along with his open custody sentence, the youth will receive eight months’ supervision. He is prohibited from having firearms.

He has charges out of Prince Albert that are still before the courts as well. His next appearance on those charges is scheduled for Feb. 27.

Due to provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the youth cannot be named.
