Golfers in Saskatchewan itching to get another round in this season have an opportunity to do so beginning this weekend.

The Perdue Oasis Golf Course, just outside Perdue, Sask., west of Saskatoon along Highway 14, is reopening their doors on Saturday and will remain open for the following week as mild seasonal weather is keeping the course in playable condition.

Andrew Wilkinson helps manage the course and said they could stay open well into November, if Mother Nature will allow them to.

“We’ve been shut down now for almost two weeks. We just put the golf course to sleep and then the weatherman said that it’s going to be nice so hey, why not get a little more extra income to pay the bills.”

“We’re just going to monitor the weather and see how it goes after [Nov. 8]. Probably monitor [the Nov. 15] weekend, see what the weather is the next week, and maybe we’ll be able to roll again for another week.”

Wilkinson explained that the course is “pretty bare bones” as they prepare to welcome back golfers.

All 18 holes will be open and carts are available for a reduced fee, but there is no signage or yardage markers on any of the holes. Additionally, the cups haven’t been installed on the greens as they have already prepped for winter.

“I just finished putting all new pins and cups out this morning; they’re just on the edge of the greens,” Wilkinson said. “It’s just a temporary hole.”

He continued that the course is still in great shape with very little to no debris on the fairways and that his phone has been ringing off the hook since the post was made to their Facebook page on Thursday evening. He said they’re likely already booked up for the next week, and he wishes he could allow everyone who’s wanting to play to come and get one last round in.

“I wish I had about seven more hours of daylight each day.”

“There’s like a five-hour window. We can’t golf here till probably 10:30, 11:00 every day, depending on if there’s a little bit of frost in the morning. Guys that want to get their last round in, there’ll be probably maybe 40 golfers total a day. It’s a small window.”

In the Perdue area, temperatures are expected to heat up and peak in the double digits over the next few days until Tuesday, before going back to above +10 C as mainly sunny skies line the forecast. Overnight lows, however, are expected to get down to below freezing on Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday.
