Parade coming up

Melfort parade theme decided

Jun 19, 2026 | 1:29 PM

The annual parade in Melfort is just under a month away, and we now know what the theme is for this year’s event.

The Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce sought input from the public on several different options for a theme for the parade, which will be held July 17, starting at the Kerry Vickar Centre at 10:30.

Executive Director Lorana McComber said she was thrilled with the response.

“We were very pleased with the level of engagement from the community,” McComber said. “We received close to 200 responses, which shows how excited people are about the parade and being involved in choosing this year’s theme.

The overwhelming choice for the theme revolved around the celebration of a special anniversary. McComber said the choice was “Celebrating 100 Years of the Legion – Honouring our Veterans.”

McComber said the chamber is inviting everyone to celebrate.

“We encourage everyone to show their Canadian pride by decorating storefronts, homes, yards, and parade floats in red and white,” said McComber. “This is a great opportunity to celebrate our veterans, honour their legacy, and recognize the freedoms we enjoy because of their service.”

The parade is free to enter, and anyone interested can contact Lorana for more information. There will also be registration and rules available at Nutters Everyday Naturals.

“We would love to see even more entries than last year.”

McComber said the parade is a community celebration, and everyone is invited to take part.

“Whether you’re entering a float, decorating your business or home, volunteering, or simply coming out to watch, we want the community to come together to celebrate 100 years of the Legion and honour the men and women who have served our country.”
