Mustangs extend Blevins until 2028

The Melfort Mustangs have made another commitment to the leader of their bench and the mastermind of their hockey operations.

Melfort has extended head coach and general manager Trevor Blevins through the 2027/28 season.

“The Melfort Mustangs could not be happier to welcome back the coach that led us to a Canterra Seeds Cup win as well as taking us to the final of the Centennial Cup,” said current Mustangs President Jordan Lee.

“No one cares more about this team than Trevor. Being a hometown former player, assistant coach and current head coach, his commitment to this team is unparalleled… and he and his staff have been integral to the team’s success in capturing the SJHL Championship three times in the last 10 years.”

Blevins became the head coach and general manager of the Blue and Green during the 2013/14 season and the team has made the playoffs every season since.

The Melfort local also served as an assistant coach for six years and even suited up for the club for three seasons, back in the mid-90s.

“I’m thankful for the support and confidence from the organization moving forward. I don’t take this position lightly, my full effort and commitment won’t change, and our plan is to be competitive every year in hopes of winning more championships,” Blevins told northeastNOW.

“I bleed Blue and Green, I’ve been a part of this organization for 20 years now, and I look forward to many more to come.”

Blevins, who is also a big family man, made sure to credit his wife and kids for all their support as well.

“I can’t thank them enough because of the sacrifice of being away.”
