24 YEARS AT THE HELM

WHL commissioner won’t return after 2023/2024 season

Ron Robison will not return as Western Hockey League (WHL) commissioner following the 2023/2024 season.

That season will be Robison’s 24th at the helm of the WHL.

Born in Indian Head, Saskatchewan, Robison joined as commissioner and CEO prior to the start of the 2000/2001 season, after spending nearly two decades as a senior exec with Hockey Canada.

He will go down as the longest-serving WHL commissioner in recent years surpassing former league president Ed Chynoweth, who guided the league for 21 seasons.

The news was made public following the WHL’s Annual General Meeting, which concluded on June 21.

Robison is scheduled to speak to the media on Thursday.
